Before you start

Goals must be switched on for your site. If you cannot see Goals, ask your site or organisation admin.

  1. 1

    Open Atlassian Home

Go to home.atlassian.com and pick your site if you have more than one.

  2. 2

    Click Create, then Goal

Click the Create button at the top of the screen and choose Goal from the list.

  3. 3

    Name the goal

Type a name that says the outcome, for example "Cut onboarding time to one day". If your company uses objectives and key results, say which level it is in the name.

  4. 4

    Check the owner

You are the owner by default. Change it if someone else is accountable for the goal.

  5. 5

    Set a target date

Pick the date the goal should be met by.

  6. 6

    Click Create

Click Create. The goal opens on its About tab, where you add a description, a parent goal, followers and linked work.

If it does not work

There is no Goal option under Create. Goals is switched off for your site. An organisation or site admin turns it on in Atlassian Administration.

You want the goal to show progress from Jira. Open the goal and link work to it, such as an Atlassian project or a Jira work item, from the goal's page.
