How to request indexing in Google Search Console

Paste the page address into the inspect bar at the top of Search Console, press Enter, then click Request indexing. Google tests the live page first, which took 10 to 20 seconds for us. You need the Owner or Full user permission on the property.

This is for anyone who has published or changed a page and wants Google to look at it sooner. You paste the page address into the inspect bar, wait for the result and click Request indexing. It asks Google to crawl the page, it does not promise it will be indexed or when.

Before you start

You need the Owner or Full user permission on the property, and the page address must belong to that property.

Time
About 1 minute per page, plus 10 to 20 seconds while Google tests the live page

Who can do this
RoleWhat it can do here
OwnerCan inspect a page and request indexing. Seen working on 7 and 8 Oct 2026.
Full userCan use URL inspection on the property. We did not test a Full user pressing Request indexing.
Restricted userNot tested. Restricted users are refused other actions such as submitting a sitemap.
  1. 1

Open Search Console and pick the property

Go to Search Console and choose your property. Open the Performance page or any report, so the inspect bar is on screen.

You should see: The inspect bar at the top with the text Inspect any URL in your property.

  2. 2

Paste the page address in the inspect bar

Click the inspect bar next to the logo, wait a second, paste the full page address and press Enter. On a narrow window click the magnifier icon first.

You should see: A page called URL inspection, with your address at the top left.

  3. 3

    Read the result

A page Google has not seen says URL is not on Google, with the line Page is not indexed. A page it already has says it is on Google, and you only need to continue if you changed the page.

You should see: Either URL is not on Google, or a notice that the page is on Google, with Request indexing at the right.

  4. 4

    Click Request indexing

Click REQUEST INDEXING at the right of the result. A dialog says Testing if live URL can be indexed. Wait for it, up to a minute.

You should see: The dialog Testing if live URL can be indexed, then after 10 to 20 seconds Indexing requested.

  5. 5

    Dismiss the confirmation

Click Dismiss. Do not click Request indexing again for the same page, Google says it will not change its place in the queue.

You should see: You are back on the result page.

If it does not work

Typing the address into the inspect bar does nothing. On a narrow window the bar is a magnifier icon. Click it, wait a second so the box opens, then type. Text typed too soon is lost.

The dialog says the live URL cannot be indexed. Click Test live URL at the top right and read why, for example a noindex tag, a block in robots.txt or a page that redirects. Fix that on your site, then request again.

You are told you have reached the daily limit. Stop and try again tomorrow. Request your newest and most important pages first, because the limit is small.

Questions

Where do I paste the page address?

In the inspect bar at the top of Search Console, next to the logo, which reads Inspect any URL in your property's name. On a narrow window it is a magnifier icon, so click it first and give it a second before you type.

What does URL is not on Google mean?

Google has not indexed the page. For a brand new page we saw the line "Page is not indexed: URL is unknown to Google", with Sitemaps reading "No referring sitemaps detected".

How long does Request indexing take to respond?

Google tests the live page first, behind a dialog that says Testing if live URL can be indexed. It took between 10 and 20 seconds for us, then the dialog said Indexing requested.

Does asking twice make Google crawl it faster?

No. The confirmation says the URL was added to a priority crawl queue and that submitting a page multiple times will not change its queue position or priority.

Is there a daily limit?

Google limits how many requests you can make, but we did not reach the limit with three requests, so we cannot tell you the number. If you hit it the dialog will say so, and you try again the next day.

How we checked

Verified 11 Oct 2026 against the live interface on pinafly.com's own Search Console domain property.

What we observed

  • Pasting a new page address into the inspect bar and pressing Enter showed the result URL is not on Google, with Request indexing at the right and Test live URL at the top right.
  • After pressing Request indexing, a dialog read Testing if live URL can be indexed for between 10 and 20 seconds, then changed to Indexing requested.
  • The Indexing requested dialog said the URL was added to a priority crawl queue and that submitting a page multiple times will not change its queue position or priority.
  • We requested indexing for three pages on pinafly.com in one session and did not hit a quota message.
